on foreign shores I

on foreign shores
how kind they seem, bananas
- like countrymen

  1. I don't for certain how you meant this poem to be taken, but I found it wry and very funny...

  2. Hi pajamas. Not sure about wry but yes I'm happy if it brings a smile to the reader's face - it did to the writer's:) It came to me one day in the supermarket when all the tins and boxes seemed unfamiliar to me, I was tired and I couldn't find a thing on my shopping list. Suddenly I saw before me a great school (;-) of bananas and I was so happy just to recognize something.

BTW there's an alternate version in the post before this one.

  3. I am amused by your verse because I have felt the same way when in a foreign place.

  4. Thanks Carlos. As they say, a banana in need is a banana indeed:)
